OPAL
Opals at Klimek Jewellers

Opals are slightly more unusual to other gemstones, they are made up of 20% water that is trapped in a silica structure. They are reasonably soft stones measuring a 5 - 6.5 on the Mohs scale meaning they are more susceptible to damage than other stones such as Sapphires and Emeralds. Opals are made up of hydrated Silica and comes in a vast spectrum of colours.

Opals are the birthstone for October and became very popular around the 1980's when mines in Australia began to mine opals commercially. Before this opals were thought of as powerful and precious due to the variety of colours that it can found in.
